Autism Providers Face Greater Attention As Industry Matures

BRG recently estimated the Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) market size for children ages 6 and under to be nearly $4b in 2022—and growing ~13% annually to more than $6b in 2026. The growth in the market has brought criticisms of some autism providers, such as pushing too many hours on patients and prioritizing profits, while also raising questions about the efficacy of ABA therapy. FL Medicaid Postpones Proposed ABA Rate Cuts

Florida's state Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) proposed several changes to Medicaid-covered behavior analysis services, including reimbursement reductions for providers who treat children with autism. Autism CPT Codes Made Permanent In 2019

Stakeholders worked with the American Medical Association (AMA) to make Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) codes permanent, effective January 1, 2019. The change is viewed favorably by ABA providers.
